Have Fun on a Story Walk-About
Summer in Maine is the perfect time to explore two unique ways to enjoy books and reading with your family. Story Walks get you up and moving by posting enlarged copies of book pages throughout a park, trail or other open space. You’re wiggly, squiggly ones will enjoy the opportunity to move about as you follow the story line. Even better, you’ll have the chance to interact with other families for more fun. Look for a Story Walk near you. (Email us at info@raisingreaders.org if you know of other Story Walks we should add to our Pin board.)
Build Community and a Love of Books
Since 2009, Little Free (LF) Libraries have been popping up across the country and, across Maine. Designed to promote literacy and promote a love of and reading by creating free book exchanges, Little Free Libraries have become a simple way to create literacy-rich neighborhoods. We’ve collected some LF Libraries in Maine on a Pin board so you can find one near you. Or locate any LF Library world-wide on this map. Consider creating a Little Free Library in your community. There are plans and other resources at www.littlefreelibraries.org.
We’d love to see photos of your Story Walk adventures or your visits to Little Free Libraries. Share them with us on Facebook or Instagram. Happy Summer!
