The 2018 Raising Readers Annual Report
We are pleased to share the 2018 Raising Readers Annual Report. With help from 1,600 healthcare providers at nearly 350 participating sites, the program delivered 160,000 high-quality, developmentally appropriate books to 67,000 Maine babies and children in 2018.
Since 2000, Raising Readers has been privately funded by the Libra Foundation.
The effort to share the love of books and reading with Maine families has been generously funded for over 18 years by the Libra Foundation. The foundation’s investment continues to pay off; an Annie E. Casey study found that nearly 8 in 10 Maine parents and caregivers read to their children four days a week or more, a rate higher than in any other state in the country. Please join us in thanking the Libra Foundation for their commitment to building Maine families’ home libraries for all these years.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you—parents, grandparents, early literacy advocates, librarians, publishing partners, early childhood educators, healthcare providers, literacy organizations, and community volunteers – for making Maine communities happier and healthier by sharing read-aloud experiences with our youngest citizens.
