This sturdy board book offers very high-contrast illustrations of friendly animals to share with babies.

Age Group 2 months

What’s Happening at this Age

  • Babbling and beginning to imitate sounds
  • Smiling at the sound of familiar voices

You already know that your baby loves you! Your voice makes your baby turn their head toward you and other family members. They may even kick their legs and smile when you talk. Continuing to talk with your dear one will help them build their understanding of the sounds of our language as well as how the words go together. Simple books with one word to a page or song books can help you to have exciting things to talk about. Hold the books near your baby’s face so they can see the pictures as you point to them.

Why did we select this book?

Research shows that showing babies high-contrast colors, images, patterns, and shapes is key to helping them grow not only a strong pair of eyes but also a healthy brain. Black and white are the easiest colors for babies to see, and as their vision begins to grow, they also respond to strong colors such as red, blue, and yellow. We chose this book because it has high-contrast images that will captivate your Dear One's attention, help them to pick out the differences between shapes, and pave the way for healthy brain development.

Related Activities

Hold your baby’s attention by holding the book in front of them, or above them if they are on their back. Talk with them about the pictures on the pages. Along with reading the words on the left hand page, you can also talk about the bunny’s long ears and fluffy tail. Remember that the sound your infant loves the most is the sound of your voice. The sense of comfort they get from your voice each time you read aloud to them will help their brain grow strong.
