Rhythm and Rhyme
Books that can be sung aloud are some of the best tools to teach young toddlers that books can be fun and active. Dancing to a tune sung aloud from a book, young toddlers will enjoy the story again and again. And that's a good thing because eventually your child will sing the story to you! Memorizing and reciting short stories as a preschooler is an important pre-reading skill that can be nurtured early on in young toddlers by reading (and singing) stories that have rhythm and rhyme such as Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes - this is the new 9 month book in the raising readers collection that will be starting soon!

Memorizing and reciting short stories as a preschooler is an important pre-reading skill that can be nurtured early on in young toddlers by reading (and singing) stories that have rhythm and rhyme. Listen to the song "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" (from Worthington Libraries Online):
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
Head, shoulders, knees, and toes,
Knees and toes.
Eyes and ears and mouth and nose.
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes
