New raising readers Book Nook!
raising readers is happy to announce the opening of its new "book nook" at the Children's Museum of Maine, in Portland, Maine on November 3, 2006. The raising readers Book Nook is a quiet, cozy place at the Children's Museum of Maine where children and caregivers can share a good book. The nook has the look of a cabin, complete with a large rocking chair, imitation pot bellied stove, calico curtains and a braided rug. Multicultural art renderings by Maine artist, Roz Davis, decorate the walls and vibrant, primary colors on the cabin's interior trim give the space a warm welcoming appeal. Children's picture books in different languagesChildren's picture books in English, Spanish, Somali, Arabic, Vietnamese, Farsi, and Braille line the built in bookshelves. These dual language books allow adults who might be learning English, a chance to read a book to their child in their native language. Book titles in all languages are rotated often by museum staff to keep the selection fresh.
